Research day in the library--have your blackboard research assignments (both homework 2 and homework for online students) before class.

Homework:

Bring 1 hard copy of draft 2 to class.  Minimum 3 pages--even if it just one line onto the 3rd page.  NOT AN OUTLINE--bring in an actual paper.  We will be looking at organization and paragraph structure.

Class 2/20-25

Class will be in MNL 121 next week.  Please remember to complete the homework (found under "my organizations" for Library Research Essentials 300.  You will be doing actual research during class so  if you would like to bring your own laptop, you can.  There will be desktops enough for everyone if you don't want to bring a laptop.

Wednesday, class will be optional.  I will be outside room 121 and will help you with research or your paper on the computers in the library (not in the room as the room is booked).

    • include examples and a few questions/exercises for a reader to complete

  • Discussion Leader readings (one from text book, one online)
  • Shitty First Draft due FRIDAY 2/10 @ 2:00 to blackboard
    • A "Shitty First Draft" should be at least 2 pages and contain a thesis
      • can be in outline format
    • Bring 6 copies to your group workshop (sign-up starts Wednesday)

Crafting an Argument

Rules:

  • Pick a Side
  • BE STRONG AND CONFIDENT IN YOUR SIDE (all caps indicates strength and confidence)
  • Walk your reader through your logic
  • Create a thesis, write it on a card and keep it next to you while you write
Thesis: Always needs a "WHAT" and a "WHY"
